What Happens to My Waste?
Clear Recycling Bags
The clear recycling bags are taken down to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF). At the MRF all of the recycling is sorted by material before being sent off for processing. Where the material is sent for recycling very much depends on the type of waste it is and on market value at that specific time.

Food Waste
The food waste is taken to an Anaerobic Digester at Severn Trent Green Power in Stormy Down near Bridgend. The food waste is treated and the end products are a bio gas which generates electricity, and a slurry type fertiliser. In a year enough electricity is produced from Ceredigion’s food waste to power about 300 homes. The fertiliser distributed onto agricultural land.
The video below show the anaerobic digestion process.

Glass
The glass collected from your glass recycling boxes is sent to a glass recycling facility. Glass can be recycled endlessly so there is no excuse in putting it into the black bag.
Energy From Waste
Most of the non-recyclable waste collected in your black bags now goes to an energy from waste facility to be treated instead of going to a landfill site. Watch the video below to find out more.
