Ceredigion Community Safety Strategy 2024-2027
The Community Safety Partnership have a statutory duty to undertake a regular review of crime and disorder in the county, and identify methods of developing and implementing effective action to reduce these problems. These reviews provide the Partnership with a strong evidence based, intelligence led foundation to inform a Community Safety Strategy for Ceredigion.
In 2023, the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership undertook a Crime and Disorder Strategic Assessment with the aim of identifying the main issues affecting the county, gain perspective on important issues like fear of crime, anti-social behaviour and drug or alcohol misuse. The Assessment comprised of two element -
- A comprehensive public engagement exercise by way of a bilingual questionnaire, whereby 89 responses including 167 written comments were received.
- Supporting quantitative data submitted by partners, which allowed a comparison of public perception and fear of crime, against empirical crime data and service engagement figures.
Based on the evidence collated as part of the Assessment, the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership agreed on a number of priorities for their Community Safety Strategy. It was agreed that the Partnership would employ a two-part Strategy with one set of priorities focused on reducing criminal activity, alongside a second set focusing on improving public confidence, reassurance and the feeling of safety within communities. The Strategy was approved by Ceredigion County Council's Overview and Scrutiny Co-ordinating Committee in July 2024.
