Carer Card for Adults
Apply for a carer card:
Please upload a clear photo of your head and shoulders to be used on your Carer Card. You can ask someone to take the picture with a phone or camera. The photo must be no larger than 2MB if you’re uploading it online.
If you can’t upload the photo, you can email it to connecting@ceredigion.gov.uk or call Ceredigion County Council at 01545 574200 for assistance.
You can also send your photo by post. Just write your name and date of birth on the back of the picture and send it to the address at the end of the form.
Your photo should:
- Be a recent colour photo
- Only show you (no one else or pets)
- Have a plain background
- Show you facing forward with your head and shoulders visible
- Clearly show your full face
- Place you in the centre of the picture
- If you wear glasses, make sure your eyes are visible and there’s no glare on the lenses
Please avoid the following:
- Don’t wear a hat or head covering unless it’s for medical or religious reasons
- Don’t submit a photo with red eye
- Don’t submit a photo taken from far away or with others in the background
- Don’t submit inappropriate or altered photos (no filters)
- Don’t use someone else’s image or copyrighted photos
File Format
The photo should be a .jpg or .jpeg file and no larger than 2MB.
- The card is for unpaid carers who are 18 or older and live in or care for someone in Ceredigion
- You must be a member of the Carers Information Service to apply
- Sometimes you may need to prove that you’re a carer, for example by showing Carer’s Allowance or a letter from your GP
- The card is valid for two years, and you need to apply for a renewal before it expires
- If you stop being a carer, you should tell the council, and after three months, you must return the card

Do I have to get a Carer Card?
No, it’s optional.
Does this card replace the Carers Emergency Card?
Not at the moment, but this could change in the future.
Do I need to live with the person I care for?
No, but either you or the person you care for must live in Ceredigion.
Do I need to be a member of the Carers Information Service?
Yes, you can join when you apply for the card.
Can I apply without Carer’s Allowance?
Yes, you don’t need to receive Carer’s Allowance to apply.
Is the Carer Card free?
Yes, it is free of charge.
I live on the border of Ceredigion, in Carmarthenshire or Pembrokeshire and so does the person that I care for but we use services and shop in Ceredigion. Can I apply for a Carers Card?
No, you or the person you care for must live in Ceredigion. The council is working with other counties to offer similar benefits across the region.
What if I stop being a carer?
You must tell the council, and you can keep the card for three more months before returning it.
Can multiple carers in a family share a card?
No, each carer must apply for their own card.
How long is the card valid for?
The card is valid for two years. It can be renewed by contacting the Carers and Community Support Team on 01545 574200 or connecting@ceredigion.gov.uk.
