Information And Advisory Signs

This type of sign gives road users important information or advice about road features and conditions that may help them to plan their journey. They tend to be rectangular blue signs with white text and a white border.

The most common types of advisory signs in Ceredigion provide important advice about the type of vehicle for which the road ahead may be unsuitable. Due to the rural nature of Ceredigion, these signs appear at many locations across the county, often on roads which were not originally designed for motorised traffic.

These signs are designed to discourage drivers from using roads that are inappropriate for their type of vehicle, for instance because longer vehicles or HGVs may be unable to safely negotiate sharp bends, steep gradients or narrow sections.

They are therefore useful on roads where larger vehicles have previously caused problems, for example becoming stuck or causing other road safety concerns. They are not installed at locations where the presence of larger vehicles is simply felt to be visually or environmentally intrusive.

There must be clear evidence to justify installing these signs as they may negatively impact access for local industries such as agriculture, forestry and quarrying, and important services such as parcel and fuel delivery, and refuse collection.

Other types of sign advise road users of the presence of Safety Cameras, along with a reminder of the local speed limit.
