On-Street Electric Vehicle Charging
The Council have partnered, through the Welsh Government framework, with Trojan Energy, and Dragon Charging to provide Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points across Ceredigion County, which help make it easier for our residents to make the switch to EV ownership.
From September 2025 with match funding from the Welsh Government it is hoped that we will roll out approximately 40 sites in residential areas using the expertise of Connected Kerb and Trojan Energy, The Council is prioritising areas that do not have easy access to the destination chargers or residents that are unable to charge their vehicles from home.
Ceredigion County Council has recently signed a contract with Connected Kerb and Trojan Energy, two of the country’s leading providers of EV charging solutions for residential areas.
Chargepoints in your area
The future is most likely to be electric. In 2035, a ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles comes into force.
According to zap-map research, in 2024 there were 381,970 new fully electric cars sold, representing 19.6% of all new cars registered that year. And, more fully electric cars were sold in 2024 than any other year, showing a 21% increase compared to 2023.
This highlights the importance of having enough affordable, reliable and hassle-free charging infrastructure for the many, not the few.
Dragon Charging has already installed 90 charge post connectors around Council owned car parks, leisure centres, community halls and on arterial routes through the County. Connected Kerb will soon be starting the first five site installations with many more installations over the coming months.
EV Charging roll out
We are currently undertaking site evaluation, and when these have been completed there will be a period of engagement with residents immediately in the vicinity of the sites with letter drops.
The Council is not proposing to change any of the parking arrangements currently in place at the moment, so all cars will still be able to park as before, although we hope people will be considerate & allow EV drivers to charge their vehicles. Any future changes to parking arrangements would go through the normal consultation process.
