Lampeter comes out on top in the St David's Day shop window decorating competition

Following the shop window competition to celebrate St David’s day recently, we are pleased to announce that Hunters Hair Lounge in Lampeter took the Ceredigion St David's Shop Window Competition trophy with Kelly's Deli also of Lampeter coming second and Aberaeron’s Celtic, Aberaeron in third place.

This is a new competition for businesses across Ceredigion organised by Cered, the county’s Welsh language initiative, as part of their work promoting the Welsh language and Welsh culture. The competition led to tens of businesses across Ceredigion making a special effort to celebrate St David’s Day.

From flags, dragons and daffodils to contemporary and highly impressive artistic masterpieces showing great originality and creativity, colourful shop windows could be seen across the county. Photos and videos are available to view  on Cered's Instagram page.

Hannah James, the organiser of the competition on behalf of Cered, said: "What a competition! It was an extremely colourful event. The windows were judged on their originality and their reflection of the spirit of the festival and Welshness. It was very difficult to choose a winner!"

In addition to the new trophy for Ceredigion's winning window businesses could also compete for the best window in town. The winners in the town categories were;

·                Llandysul – Siop Ffab

Davies, Ceredigion's Cabinet Member responsible for Culture and the Welsh Language, said: "I am very grateful to everyone who ensured the success of this competition by decorating their shop windows so brilliantly.
