Ceredigion's new Supported Lodgings Scheme is looking for hosts
Could you provide a safe, supportive space in your home for a young person? Supported Lodgings Ceredigion are looking for hosts to accommodate young people between the age of 16 and 25.
As a host to a young person, you will be expected to provide a room in your home, guide and support the young person to develop the skills they need to live independently. The young people could be leaving care, are no longer able to live at home or an unaccompanied asylum seeker.
Hosts may be involved with supporting and guiding a young person to develop skills and gain confidence in accessing education, cooking and cleaning, budgeting, using public transport, gardening and maintenance, helping them with their social skills and being there to listen. Full training and support is provided to hosts prior and during their period as a Supported Lodgings Host.
Sally, Former Supported Lodgings Host said: “Seeing the young people thrive was rewarding. It would take around a month or so for the young people to feel settled, so you have to be patient. The little things, like offering to me make me a coffee or asking if they could help with making the tea was special, which they would never have done first off, and seeing them move on and become independent adults."
Alun Williams, Deputy Leader of Ceredigion Council and Cabinet Member for Through Age and Wellbeing which includes Ceredigion's New Supported Lodgings Scheme, said: "By being a host in Ceredigion, you are enabling young people to stay in their community, with the surroundings, accent, school, language, friends and activities they know. It keeps them connected, builds stability and confidence, all whilst navigating the big changes they're experiencing. If you're interested in learning more, get in touch with the team."
If you feel that you could be a host or have any questions about what this may look like email fostering@ceredigion.gov.uk or call the CLIC Contact Centre on 01545 570 881 and ask for the Supported Lodgings Team.
