Tributes to Councillor and former Chairman of Ceredigion County Council
Ceredigion County Council expresses its deepest sympathies in regard to the passing of Councillor Paul Hinge.
Councillor Hinge provided long-standing service to Ceredigion and its residents for many years, representing Tirymynach ward since 2008, and was Chairman of the Council between 2021 and 2022. This was a particularly challenging time due to Covid-19, however, Councillor Paul Hinge demonstrated his ability to adapt and embraced the latest technology.
During his 16 years of service to the residents of Ceredigion, Councillor Hinge also chaired a number of committees, including the Learning Communities Committee, the Overview and Scrutiny Coordinating Committee, the Charity Trustee Committee, and was the current Chair of the Licensing Committee.
As Ceredigion’s Armed Forces Champion, Councillor Hinge was passionate about providing support and ensuring that Armed Forces veterans throughout the whole of the County were given a voice, and was steadfast in promoting the principles of freedom and democracy. This was an important role for him, having served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. In 2022, Councillor Hinge was invited to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Island, as a special guest of its Government.
Councillor Bryan Davies, Leader of Ceredigion County Council, said: “We are so sorry to learn of the passing of Councillor Paul Hinge. As a Councillor, he served his ward dutifully, and was a friendly face to the residents of Ceredigion. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and close friends of Paul.”
Paying tribute, Eifion Evans, Chief Executive of the Council, said: “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Councillor Paul Hinge. His unwavering commitment as Ceredigion’s Armed Forces Champion and his exemplary service as a former Chairman of the Council have greatly benefited our community. Councillor Hinge was a passionate advocate for our Armed Forces Veterans and a respected Councillor who always prioritised the wellbeing of Ceredigion’s residents. Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies go out to his family during this challenging time.”
