Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training hosts successful Macmillan Coffee Morning
Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training (HCT) staff and learners enjoyed taking part in a belated Macmillan Coffee Morning on 14 and 15 October 2024. This is the event that raises the largest amount of money each year for essential care and support services for people in the affected by cancer.
The hospitality and tourism group of the Alternative Curriculum played a major role in raising the money by working towards the completion of two units of work. The learners were responsible for cooking and selling delicious cakes, homemade pizzas and sausage rolls. They also created posters, decorated the classroom, held raffles, and asked learners and staff to play a game to guess how many sweets were in the jar.
Norma, their Training Consultant, said: “I'm very proud of the learners for coming into the centre early to help get the venue ready for the event. They all communicated well with each other and worked well as a team! They were polite and friendly with all the fans and staff. The event was a great success and we couldn't be more proud of them."
In addition, for £5, the apprentices offered a hairdressing, coffee and cake session which proved to be a huge success, with several members of the community joining on both days.
The final total raised was £500; one of the learners said: "I feel a great sense of achievement."
Councillor Wyn Thomas, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, said: "The staff and learners of Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training have done an exceptional job during the Macmillan Coffee Morning. Their hard work and dedication resulted in a successful event that raised a significant amount for a vital cause. The creativity and teamwork shown by all involved was truly impressive. Well done to everyone for making this event such a success."
