Cered on the Prom ’24
Come and enjoy an afternoon jam-packed with Welsh entertainment at Aberystwyth Bandstand on Wednesday 31 July with a special event organised by Cered: Menter Iaith Ceredigion.
The doors to 'Cered ar y Prom' will open at midday and there will be a handful of stalls and activities throughout the afternoon including a treasure hunt along the Aberystwyth Promenade, a Lego workshop, a Welsh board games corner and physical challenges from the Mentrau Iaith Sport and Leisure team.
In addition to this, there will be a range of performers and sessions starting at one o'clock with a Welsh story and song session for children and at two o'clock a session suitable for learners with the social media phenomenon from Wrexham, 'Doctor Cymraeg’.
At three o'clock the musical entertainment will start with performances by local artists and bands namely the singer-songwriter from Pontrhydfendigaid Rhiannon O'Connor, the rockers from Aberystwyth 'Bwca' and the winners of the 2023 National Eisteddfod’s Battle of the Folk Bands 'Lo-Fi Jones' from Machynlleth. Closing this mini festival will be the local ukulele orchestra Iwcadwli which has been entertaining visitors at the Bandstand regularly over the past month.
The organiser of the event, Steff Rees from Cered, stated: “This is a free afternoon full of fun and excitement for all ages in the middle of the school holidays which will offer entertainment to local children and adults while also opening the door to the language and culture of Wales for those who will visit Ceredigion over the holidays.”
Councillor Catrin M S Davies is the Cabinet member responsible for Culture. She said: “This an excellent opportunity for families and friends across the County to enjoy Welsh music and activities this summer. Everybody is welcome - from those starting their Welsh learning journey to those who are fluent, and everyone in between. Come and enjoy!”
