Team Manager

I am the team manager for the Employability Support Team in Ceredigion. The Employability Support Team works alongside Welsh Government to deliver the Communities for work + project. Within my role I work closely with my team and other partners to ensure we offer a bespoke package of support for Ceredigion residents to re-enter the labour market.

I worked for many years for the Department of Work and Pension before returning to higher education to obtain a degree in Education. Once graduated I became the NEET coordinator for Ceredigion where I focused on supporting young people with education employment or training.

Although my job has moved on from directly working with our participants, I still feel very proud of them all when they achieve and sustain employment.

In my role as the Co-ordinator, I provide support to the team manager and regional partners. Supporting with preparation, development, monitoring, and evaluation of the employability projects within Ceredigion. My educational background in Criminology, combined with my experience of working directly with vulnerable individuals, has given me valuable insights into the positive impact of having career goals and sustainable employment can have on an individual's well-being and life prospects.

With these experiences and understanding, my aim is to advocate for best practices and deliver the best possible services to the residents of Ceredigion.

I have worked at Ceredigion County Council Since April 2016 and have worked in various roles in supporting young people to reach their full potential and to become active contributing members in society. I was appointed as the Employability, Engagement and Progression Support Officer for 16-24 year olds as part of the Communities for work+ within the Employment Support Team in December 2022 and within my role I enjoy working with various individuals, stakeholders and partners to enhance employment outcomes for young people in Ceredigion.

I have previously worked on an EU funded project which supported young people with a bespoke learning package delivered externally from schools for pre 16 individuals which enabled them to gain a qualification to support them with gaining employment post-16. I also currently work within another service with young people that are members of ‘Aberystwyth Ambassadors’ and empower them to lead on projects within the community.

I have worked as a mentor for the Communities for Work+ project for the last five years. I have a degree in Social Inclusion which I reflect on daily within my role as a community employment mentor. I get a real satisfaction seeing the people I support enter employment, especially people who have never worked in their lives. My daily routine entails of being out and about, meeting new participants, supporting them into work by assisting with their CV’s, job applications and mock interviews. No day is ever the same!

My role as an Employment Mentor is to work closely with you to help you achieve your goals, whether that be working in retail, or getting onto a course that will enable you to work in your chosen field. We will take a step-by-step approach and you can reach out to me at any time. No question is a silly question!

My background is working 1-1 with people who are facing challenges whilst trying to get into work. These challenges can be anything from financial barriers, to learning difficulties. I have a relaxed Mentor style but with realistic goals to reach, with my help throughout.

My favourite thing about my job is helping somebody get into work and to go in 6 months later and see them there, happy. It gives me a huge sense of achievement to see my participants grow in confidence!

Being a Community Mentor brings so much for individuals and reduces the barriers individuals may have on a daily basis, i.e. childcare, travel which inhibits them to their full potential on finding better paid work. We work closely alongside them, and support their individual needs throughout, case by case.

With a background in the NHS having worked with young individuals, and families, and supporting them in their healthcare pathway. This transfers to the role as a Community Mentor as we work closely to ensure the individuals goals are met.

I enjoy meeting new individuals, and listening to their story, and backgrounds. Overcoming their own challenges, and anxieties, it is incredibly rewarding finding a work outcome once they are happy in.

Supporting vulnerable young people and adults to get training, qualifications, volunteering, and employment within industries that provide a better future for everyone. Working mainly with participants with complex needs or criminal convictions, I work hard to help them find the beginning of a new life chapter. Providing support and stability whilst they find their new goals and creating effective relationships to guide and mentor each individual. With a focus on multi-agency input and breaking down the barriers that are in the way to finding meaningful employment.

My background in working with young offenders and in arts education allows me to think creatively and provide a multi-agency approach to create long-lasting outcomes that benefit the people I am working with, not a one size fits all approach.

My favourite thing about my job is seeing individuals who have lost hope and motivation and almost been written off by society, re-gain their confidence and work towards a fresh start.

I work with Communities for Work Plus and aim to provide a full bespoke programme of support to help break down any barriers to employment people may face. My background has mainly been in Education and Administration. I have worked with young people between the ages of 11-18 for the past 13+ years but was ready for a new challenge. I thoroughly enjoy my new role helping in the community with all age ranges. My favourite thing about this role is that every day is different, and I get to meet so many new people from varying backgrounds.
