Workplace Recycling Regulations - Ceredigion County Council

All businesses are reminded that they have a Duty of Care to ensure that they dispose of their waste safely and legally by using a licenced Waste Carrier. Please note that Trade Waste will not be accepted at the Council’s Household Waste Site.

New legislation has come into force which requires all businesses to sort their waste for recycling. For more information please see Environment (Wales) Act 2016. The Council requires its customers to use the recycling services available. Only non-recyclable waste will be collected in the trade residual waste containers.

Caravan Sites - Please note

Commercial waste charges apply to caravans which are used in the course of a business for the provision of self-catering accommodation or a caravan which is not allowed to be used for human habitation throughout the year by virtue of a licence or planning permission. Only waste from caravans permanently occupied and where the occupier pays domestic Council Tax is classed as household waste.

Recycling and residual collections are available from Ceredigion Council, please see below for more details. No customer shall be entitled to a collection of non-recyclable waste only.

 

Paper & Card Recycling

Paper and Card are collected together in blue sacks fortnightly.

  • Blue sacks are available at a cost of £5.00 per bag

Plastic, Metal & Cartons Recycling 

Plastic, Metal and Cartons are collected together in red sacks fortnightly. 

  • Red sacks are available at a cost of £5.00 per bag

Food Waste

There are two options for food waste collections, both options are available as a weekly collection.

140 Litre Food Bin - 140 litre food waste bins are provided (with the first bin provided free of charge and £46.00 per bin thereafter). The Council charges for the collection of the waste.

  • Food waste tags must be purchased in advance and attached to the handle of the 140 litre food waste bins when presented for collection. The cost of a food waste tag is £6.00 each. A  Lilac tag must be used for each collection (applies to Trade Waste Collections and Chargeable Household Waste Collections).

23 Litre Food Bin - 23 litre food waste bins are provided (with the first bin provided free of charge and £6.00 per bin thereafter). The Council charges for the collection of the waste.

  • Food waste tags must be purchased in advance and attached to the handle of the 23 litre food waste bins when presented for collection. The cost of a food waste tag is £60.00 each. This tag is an annual fee. A  tag will be provided and must not be removed from the 23 litre bin for the duration of the financial year (applies to Trade Waste Collections and Chargeable Household Waste Collections).

Glass Recycling

There are two options for  glass recycling collection, both options are available as a three weekly collection.

240 Litre Glass Bin - 240 litre glass recycling bins are provided (with the first bin provided free of charge and £106.00 per bin thereafter). The Council charges for the collection of the waste.

  • Glass recycling tags must be purchased in advance and attached to the handle of the 240 litre glass recycling bins when presented for collection. The cost of a glass tag is £10.00 each. An Aqua tag must be used for each collection (applies to Trade Waste Collections and Chargeable Household Waste Collections).

40 Litre Glass Container - 40 litre glass containers are provided (with the first bin provided free of charge and £6.00 per bin thereafter). The Council charges for the collection of the waste.

  • Glass recycling tags must be purchased in advance and attached to the 40 litre glass container when presented for collection. The cost of a glass recycling tag is £60.00 each. This tag is an annual fee. A  tag will be provided and must not be removed from the 40 litre glass container for the duration of the financial year (applies to Trade Waste Collections and Chargeable Household Waste Collections).

Residual Waste (non-recyclable)

The Council offers residual waste collection services; Residual Waste is collected in orange bags or if you wish to use a wheelie bin tags are provided (You will need to provide your own wheelie bin). A tag will need to be purchased for each collection opportunity (per lift). A Chargeable Household Waste rate is also available see below for more information. Rates are as follows:

Trade Waste 

  • Orange bags at a cost of £12.00 per bag
  • Silver tags for 240L bins are available individually at a cost of £45.00 each
  • Gold tags for 1100L bins are available individually at a cost of £160.00 each

Chargeable Household Waste refers to waste from the following:

  • Registered charity shops (or community interest company/not for profit organization) selling donated goods originating from domestic properties
  • A residential hostel which provides accommodation only to the persons with no other permanent address or who are unable to live at their permanent address (e.g. emergency accommodation or refuge)

Chargeable Household 

  • Orange bags are available at a cost of £6.00 per bag
  • Silver tags for 240L bins are available individually at a cost of £25.00 each
  • Gold tags for 1100L bins are available individually at a cost of £90.00 each

 

VAT is not applicable to the above rates.

Payment for Trade and Chargeable Household Waste collections must be made in advance of delivery of bags/tags unless an invoice is requested. Payment by invoice and card payment incurs minimum order of £50.00. Payment on delivery is not an option.
