Updates
16.12.24 A road closure was implemented on South Marine Terrace to prepare for the final road surface, with completion expected by 20th December, excluding the cobbled effect finish around South Road junction. New drainage systems were installed, effectively addressing surface water that was recently reported from Storm Darragh and previous storm. The central crossing point is now visible with ramps formed, and a new ramp replacing the steps to the castle picnic area will improve accessibility from The Hut. Masonry work and paving around the new planters are progressing, while Phase 2 has begun with excavation of a new ramp near The Gap and footings installed for a dwarf wall to support the ramp.
Upcoming works include work to complete the road construction along South Marine Terrace and into South Road will continue in readiness for the final surface.
Phase 2 wall and ramp will continue.
27.11.24 The new South Road junction layout is now complete, with foundations for the new planters installed. Crossing points and paving along South Marine Terrace have been finished, and the street lighting lanterns and decorative brackets between Castle Point and Pier Street have been added. A pressure washing trial of the existing paving slabs has successfully matched the old and new materials, ensuring a seamless appearance along the promenade.
Upcoming works include constructing the new planters and beginning the stonework, installing kerblines around The Hut, and preparing the base for new paving. Street lighting installation will continue along South Marine Terrace. Preparations for Phase 2 will commence, with work starting on a shallow ramp from Quay Street to the car park access road planned to start this week.
14.11.24: Kerbing and widening works along South Marine Terrace are nearly complete, with new street lighting columns now installed and temporary LED lighting transferred from the old columns. Work has begun near The Hut on South Road junction to install new kerblines and remove the traffic island, progressing smoothly thanks to favourable weather.
Scheduled Ancient Monument consent from CADW has been granted, allowing the replacement contract for the two Castle footbridges to be awarded. The design of the new footbridges will closely replicate the existing wooden bridges. The reconfigured South Road/South Marine Terrace junction kerblines are now in place, with slabbing, lighting, and planter foundations to follow near South Marine Terrace. Central buildouts along South Marine Terrace are also set for completion.
04.11.24: Construction is moving forward smoothly on the Aberystwyth Promenade project. The concrete access to the RNLI Ramp opposite Quay Street has been completed, while drainage works, electrical ducting, and foundations for new street lighting columns have begun. Kerbing along the new road edge is progressing well, and the footway between Quay Street and South Marine Terrace has been prepared for reinstatement, with kerbing integrated into the existing pathways.
Pavement installation between Quay Street and South Marine Terrace is nearing completion, and the increased width of the promenade is becoming evident, promising improved shared space for pedestrians and cyclists. Kerbing along South Marine Terrace continues as scheduled, and the installation of street lighting columns, along with decorative brackets from Pier Street to Castle Point, has been completed. These await the new lanterns, expected later this year. Work on drainage systems, ducting, and foundations for street lighting will also continue throughout the week.
16.10.24: Work on the Aberystwyth Promenade began on 9th October 2024. Tregaron Trading Services Ltd (TTS) has set up welfare facilities and a storage area near South Marine Terrace and Riverside Terrace. Initial construction focused on laying kerbs between Quay Street and South Marine Terrace, and the outline of the new parking spaces is now visible. Traffic management and barriers have been installed for upcoming kerbing and footway improvements. Next week, kerbing and footway work will continue, and preparations for new street lighting installation will begin.
